Mission Statement.
TML's Youth Program mission is to cultivate an environment where our youth reach their full potential in Christ.
To mentor youth with Christ-like love to transform their lives, and empower young leaders to transform their community. The Youth Ministry will do this by:
1. Building relationships with youth
2. Developing youth leadership
3. Promoting collaboration with churches, agencies and services
Rationale
- youth will be the key agents in transforming the future of Overtown.
- Older participants in our children’s programs and youth on the fringe have requested programming that responds to their particular needs.
- Youth between the 6th and 12th grades are making critical lifestyle choices that will shape not only their individual futures but also the future of our community.
- Far too many Overtown youth within strained family systems are drawn into a culture of despair with low expectations and high-risk behaviors like promiscuity and substance abuse.
- Miami-Dade’s struggle to develop ethical leadership with constructive responses to the challenges facing its urban core suggests that cultivating a new generation of leaders with firsthand knowledge of those problems may offer more hope for creative solutions than revisiting old channels of leadership development.
