Summer Volunteer Teams
at Touching Miami with Love

We challenge participants to serve alongside us in one of America’s most underserved urban communities. With well over 10 years experience hosting teams we make it easy for leaders offering housing assistance, comprehensive schedule & leader training including a thorough guidebook that includes local maps and ideas for free time In and Around Miami.
We have TWO sites for Summer 2012 and seek teams with strong leadership that demonstrate a servant’s heart and are willing to step out of their comfort zone and follow in Christ’s footsteps to serve the least of these in Miami.
What you will be doing?
Day Camp

Teams are asked to assist us in planning out activities for various rotations: Visual Arts, Fitness, Social Skills, Bible time as well as plan for Opening with songs and skits.
Teams come and work alongside our children’s ministry staff, our jr. interns and visiting summer college interns.

Length of Trip
Trips begin with the team’s arrival on Saturday and conclude with your departure the following Saturday.
Welcome and Camp Orientation Time are important to get your week started off right and will occur Sunday night at TML.
Our weekly Community Cookout is a great opportunity to not only serve, but relax and have fun with kids in camp, their parents and the community at large. Hosted each week throughout the summer, your team is asked to assit with the preparation, grilling and serving, and clean-up afterwards. It’s a great time of building community and sharing stories and life and occurs on Wednesday of each week.
Cultural Training is a time to learn something new about urban poverty, race, life in the city or a variety of topics relating to our work in Overtown. This session will occur following camp one time a week, see schedule. Leaders active participation and support of this session, makes all the difference in the participant’s response.
Bible Study, Worship and Reflection is an important component of your team’s week of service and time and effort should be placed on the planning for these expereinces to be an enriching portion of your team’s daily schedule.
OPTIONAL EVENTS:
Your team will have the opportunity to participate in Ministry to the Homeless through a parter church, Christ Fellowship. Christ Fellowship offers “Caring for Miami” on Sunday mornings and includes a time for folks to shower, get clean clothes, and have a light breakfast. There is a worship service followed by a full hot meal. Your team can participate in this meaningful time serveing the homeless in Miami.

Pre-Trip Orientation
All first-time groups are required to send at least ONE leader to attend a pre-trip orientation visit. This has proven over many years to be a most meaningful time for leaders to make plans appropriate for their group’s experience. The pre-trip visit includes an overview of the ministries of TML, introduction of children’s ministry staff, a question and answer session, a detailed overview of the guidebook, a tour of all mission sites, review of mission site policies, tour of group accommodations, and site visits to suggested free-time activities.
This is a mandetory activity for all first time leaders . Leaders may drive or fly into Miami International Airport (MIA). Discounted rates on a hotel is offered with shuttle service from the Miami Airport. Local transportation is provided by TML staff for all activities.
How to Sign Up to Serve
The first thing required is to introduce yourself to us through our Touching Miami with Love Application for Summer Ministry 2012. This is for first time teams only as a way for us to know a bit about you as a leader, your group, and your goals during your time with us.
Once that has been reviewed and accepted, we’ll work together to determine a date for service and send you out a contract.
Your team is considered “Booked” when our contract and non-refundable deposit of $250 is received. The deposit is deducted from your total cost of the trip and is in place to ensure that groups follow through on their commitment to serve on the date selected and with the number of participants agreed on. A drastic change in the number of participants agreed on to serve in a given week can make it difficult for us and it is highly suggested that much thought be given to how many might be interested in serving on your team. Once a contract and deposit is received your date is booked and plans can begin!!
A detailed Summer Guidebook will be emailed to you so that your team can begin planning a great week of mission in the inner city of Miami.
